The history of UKM dates back as far as 1912. That year a metal workshop was established at the location in Meissen. In 1949 the company VEB Kfz-Zubehoer Meissen, a manufacturer of car accessories was founded. The production of diesel engine components for the truck W 50 started in 1960. Since then diesel engine components have been a core product at UKM. The production of piston pins started in 1970. During the course of Reunification in 1990 the company was first managed by the Treuhand privatization agency as a company with limited liability (GmbH) and was privatized in 1992. After a change of ownership in 1999, the company is now run by its current owners.
