The history of UKM can be traced back as far as 1912. In this year, a metal workshop was established at the location in Meissen. In 1949 the company Kfz-Zubehoer Meissen, a manufacturer of car accessories was founded. Production of components for the W 50 diesel engine started in 1960. Since then diesel engine components have been a core product at UKM. In 1970 the manufacture of piston pins was added to the product range. During the course of Reunification in 1990 the company was first managed by the Treuhand privatization agency as a company with limited liability (GmbH) and was privatized in 1992.
