One of our goals at UKM is to recruit skilled and qualified personnel from our own ranks. That means that we normally employ our apprentices on a permanent basis after they have finished their vocational training successfully. So with 10 per cent of our overall staff, we have a high number of apprentices. We currently have 44 young people learning a trade at UKM. We train Precision Mechanics, Parts Finishers, Mechatronics Technicians, Toolmakers, Material Testers and Business Administration Assistants.
Vocational Training is carried out in two tiers, the so-called 'Duales System': Besides practical work in the company, the young employees also visit a vocational school. Our apprentices also have the opportunity to attend courses at the qualification-center at Riesa. Complementary to the every-day work environment, this institution offers opportunities for getting aquainted with specific manufacturing processes. A number of companies provided the center with different machines. From the beginning of the third year of training the young employees already work in the department in which they are going to work permanently when they finished their apprenticeship.
UKM also offers possibilities for BA students studying Business Administration by cooperating with universities: We support bachelor or diploma theses and offer internships for students.
