One of our goals at UKM is to recruit skilled and qualified personnel from our own ranks. That means that we normally employ our apprentices on a permanent basis after they have finished their vocational training successfully. This ambition also shows with the high number of apprentices, which is about 10 percent of our overall staff. Currently we have 25 young people learning a trade at UKM. We train Precision Mechanics, Mechatronics Technicians, Toolmakers and Business Administration Assistants.
Vocational Training is carried out in two tiers which is the so-called 'Duales System': Besides practical work in the company, the young employees also attend a vocational school. Furthermore, our apprentices attend courses at the qualification-center at Riesa. Complementary to the every-day work environment, this institution offers opportunities for getting aquainted with specific manufacturing processes. The relevant machines are provided by a number of different companies. We listen to the wishes and interests of our apprentices and try to respond as soon as possible. For instance, in their last year of training, whenever it is possible, we try to have our young employees working in the department they wish to work in lateron.
UKM also offers possibilities for BA students studying Business Administration by cooperating with universities. We support bachelor or diploma theses and offer internships for students.
Our cooperation with Dr.-Eberle-School in Nossen complements our efforts for the young. Within a set plan of action students from the 7th grade and up are being introduced to the metal-working professions by UKM. The program continues until graduation after 10th grade.
