Pinion shafts

The pinion shaft transfers the rotary motion of the starter to the flywheel of the crankshaft and this causes the engine to start. Pinion shafts are a component in starters with start-stop technology.

Basic materials for the production of pinion shafts are steel bars or steel wire on coils. They are first cut to length and then cold formed in a sequence of operations. After that they are machined on turning lathes. Through hardening the parts receive the required surface stability for long lifetimes. UKM produces pinion shafts of different design in very high quantities. This requires production processes that ensure high precision even for large batches.
